Our Autumn Winter 2023 collection represents a significant milestone in our journey, marking our tenth collection since the inception of Bare. It all began in the summer of 2014 when I drafted our first production order one evening from a humble hostel room amidst the serene landscapes of Ayacucho, Peru. I look back to that night with vivid memories of sitting at a small wooden desk beside a stained-glass window until 2am struggling with yarn calculations. By about 3am, I had mustered up the courage to press send on the email that would officially launch Bare Knitwear. The last ten seasons have taken me on a personal journey of self-discovery as a designer and business owner as Bare has evolved from a collection of oversized, hand knit accessories into an evolving lifestyle brand. Reflecting on the past ten seasons with Bare, I'm most proud of our unwavering commitment to our brand ethos.
Our most extensive yet, this season is a manifestation of my vision for diversity in materials that follow the natural flow of the season. As a designer, it's always been important to me to only create what I believe serves a purpose in our wardrobes. Guided by my personal philosophy of less is more, our collection expansion was rooted by intentional design. From transitional linen knit staples, to merino wool layering pieces, structural Andean wool pullovers and softly felted outer layers, each new design has been thoughtfully considered. Sustainability remains at the core of our values and this season we've increased the use of un-dyed yarns, recycled materials, and natural fibers throughout the collection.
Since the beginning, collaborative craftsmanship has always been the heartbeat of Bare, and this season is a testament to our enduring spirit. After a three-year break, we reunited with our skilled artisans in Peru last fall. Being back at the production table surrounded by the rhythmic sound of knitting machines, dogs barking, a fuzzy radio, and the bustling street traffic evoked nostalgic and calming feelings. Standing on the floor of our Lima workshop has always been where I feel most connected to our purpose. Reconnecting and collaborating with our expert team breathed new life into this collection. We explored new fabrications, innovative stitches, and refined our finishing techniques, reigniting the same excitement and inspiration I had while sitting in that hostel room nearly ten years ago.
This season encapsulates the very essence of Bare, fusing the past with the present. It reflects our growth, our values, and our direction for the next decade. To our cherished Bare community, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you, for being an integral part of Bare. Your support fuels our passion and is a constant source of inspiration. It's an honour to share this collection with you.
